Vic Berry's Scrapyard What a mess!! Some interesting coach liveries, a DMU, remains of a Class 47 and plenty of clutter. It creates however a very poignant picture. Image created from a film scan. Original photo dated 20/1/1990.

Vic Berry's Scrapyard There was an abundance of coaching stock when i visited the scrapyard. A majority of the locomotive scrapping had been completed by 1990. The famous diesel stacks no longer existed but replaced now with coaching stock. I need to do some research as to why two relatively modern Pullman coaches were in the yard. There may have been the result of an accident. Scanned image, original photo taken 20/1/1990

Demise of Class 50, 50025 - Number 2 In August 1989 Class 50, 50025 was derailed outside West Ealing station when vandals placed a length of rail across the main line. The locomotive travelled for half a mile before turning on its side. There were no fatalities or serious injuries but the locomotive was so badly damaged it was written off. The locomotive ended up at Vic Berry's scrapyard in Leicester. This photo was taken on 20.1.1990 at Vic Berry's. On the 10.3.1991 a serious fire broke out at the scrapyard which led to it's eventual closure in June 1991.

Class 50, 50025 in the OOC Factory As a result of the West Ealing derailment with 50025 in August 1989,it was decided to withdraw the locomotive from service. This image shows 50025 inside the Factory .The damage is self evident and looking at the gantry I reckon the engine unit has been extracted as a spare for other members of the class. This photo was taken at OOC on 30/9/1989. 50025 was subsequently cut up by Vic Berry's at OOC and the cabs removed to Vic Berry's at Leicester for disposal.

Class 50, 50025 which was involved in a serious derailment was withdrawn from service and despatched to the scrapyard for dismantling. In the background is one of the many stacks of railway vehicles. The scrapyard was famous for the ‘stacks’ especially those that were made up of locomotives. Sadly on my visit they had disappeared, but quite an artistic statement the coaching stock makes.
