The Royal Artilleryman 45118 The Royal Artilleryman was a stalwart on North Trans-Pennine services, here seen running into Scarborough on 2nd August 1986 working 1E82, the 09:03 Liverpool to Scarborough service. Clearly 118 has had a recent visit to Derby works as it has a nice shiny paint job.

A recently outshopped from Derby works 45118, The Royal Artilleryman (minus nameplates) passes Diggle with the 08:20 Newcastle to Llandudno service, 1M58, on the 26th May 1986. We had already photographed this train crossing the King Edward Bridge at Newcastle, managing to beat it to Diggle by car.

Formerly The Royal Artilleryman A clean 45118, minus it's The Royal Artilleryman nameplates crosses Relly Mill Viaduct to the South of Durham with 1E94, the 08:05 Liverpool to Newcastle service on 2nd May 1987. The locomotive would appear to have visited Derby works for a light overhaul fairly recently as it has been repainted with the orange stripe that was a new feature at this time.

The elusive 45110 A locomotive that I found elusive was 45110, the erstwhile D11, the first production Peak. A phone call on 12th May 1986 alerted me that it was working 1E94, the 08:05 Liverpool to Newcastle service. A quick dash to Bensham, Gateshead, secured a shot of it towards the end of it's journey. The 45/1 had recently been released from Derby works following a light overhaul, although it was already becoming slightly work-stained.

Peckfield 45118 The Royal Artilleryman passing Peckfield with the 13:33 Scarborough to Liverpool service, 1M75 on 28th June 1986. The Peak has clearly not been long out of Derby Works after probably a light overhaul as it still looks very presentable.

Derby 20s Class 20s at BREL Derby Works on 28th September 1985. I had taken a large number of pictures that day and had run out of my usual film (Kodak Tri-X), so I ended up using my reserve Ilford FP4, which produced an over-contrasty negative. I had tried printing this in the darkroom at the time and gave up, modern techniques can save some older material. Sorry no id on the 20s.

First generation heavyweights On 28th September 1985 two of the locomotives that were in the course of being broken up at BREL Derby Works were 40075 and 45045, as ever a sad sight. I did not record the identity of the Cl 08.

The old BL car look With primer patches this 45/1 was awaiting a trip to the paint shop at BREL Derby Works, 28th September 1985. This was an excellent day trip, the normal guide was not available and a member of security was with us, so we were not actually limited as to where we went, or hurried. I just about ran out of film, one of those days you never forget.

Part demolished 45045 I believe part way through breaking at BREL Derby Works on 28th September 1985. I suppose this would count as cabbing it! A number of other locomotives for breaking behind including Class 40s.

Where would spotters have been without the Adidas bag? Newcastle on 29th April 1985, 45113 has clearly had a recent visit to Derby Works and has arrived with 1E94, the 08:05 Liverpool to Newcastle service, whilst an HST prepares to depart with the 09:00 Kings Cross to Edinburgh. Btw the bag was not mine!
