378- 37062 & 33009 Cardiff 30.10.1987
I’m pretty certain of the date for this shot of Tinsley’s 37062 delivering an errant class 33 to Canton, which has just failed on a service from Portsmouth Harbour. On Friday 30th October 37062 is recorded as having hauled IV62, the 12.10 Portsmouth Harbour to Cardiff service, from Newport Ebbw Junction into Cardiff, a short haul of 12 miles, following the failure of the class 33. It was new from the Vulcan Foundary to Thornaby on 26th October 1962 and had recently been a Thornaby loco here, judging by the white stripe and kingfisher logo. A split box tractor was still not that common in South Wales at this time, although some were now being transferred to Cardiff. Unfortunately, it was never to be refurbished as it suffered severe accident damage in 1989 and was withdrawn almost immediately on the 13th March. Within a year it was being scrapped by Vic Berry’s, Leicester.
