7647 pic 5 This was the last class 25 to retain it's original livery including a small yellow warning panel, making it almost to TOPS renumbering before going into Derby works in late 1973. It also carried a possibly unique exhaust modification. In their early days the Derby type 2's started to suffer silencer cracks and fires, the silencers were removed with the exhaust outlet repositioned directly off the end off the manifold. This loco appears unique in reusing the circular exhaust port but in the modified position. It would emerge from Derby as 25297 with dual brakes and a standard letterbox slot for the exhaust outlet. In 1985 it was stored unserviceable but reinstated at Crewe wearing 25907 , it was finally withdrawn from Carlisle Kingmoor in September 1986 then stored at Springs Branch before going to Vic Berry's in 1989.
