40168 Crewe Works 29th September 1985
This was the very last Class 40 I got to signal, that is until the preserved members got out onto the main line. , , I was on late shift at Elmton & Creswell Jct on the 12th of October 1984 when 40168 passed at 14:21 on the 0Z97 Tinsley to Warsop Oil Depot. The loco returned at 15:47 with the 6Z97 Warsop Oil Depot to Stanlow tanks. I’d left my camera at home and so was unable to record the train. A pity really, as this was not only the last time I signalled a 40, but it was the last time a member of the Class visited the Shirebrook area. Coincidentally the last time a Class 25 visited the Shirebrook area it was also on the Warsop to Stanlow tanks. This was on the 27th of September 1985 when 25037 worked the service, running this time as 6Z98.,
