The special steel train arrives at Gresty Lane behind a pair of Class 86 locos, led by 86410, see comment below,. 28th December 1988. The train would be backed into the "WR sidings" which were the other side of the lines from Gresty Lane to Basford Hall, opposite to where I had parked 37712. I would then work the train forward to Hereford with 37712. Unusually the train is coming from the direction of Crewe Station instead of its normal routing via the Independent lines from Salop Goods Junction, but during the holiday period the Independent lines and Salop Goods Junction Signal box were usually closed, so all traffic came via the station.
