BR Standard 8 No. 71000 'Duke Of Gloucester' on display at BREL Crewe Works open day on Saturday 4th July 1987., The Riddles designed 4-6-2, the only one of it's kind, was built at Crewe Works and was released to traffic in May 1954. It saw just 8 & a half years service before withdrawal in November 1962. It was purchased from Woodham Bros Scrapyard, Barry, in 1974 and after a complete overhaul and rebuild, including modifications to correct errors found in the design and construction, it returned, to steam at the Great Central Railway in 1986. It is currently undergoing another overhaul to return it to the mainline once more, which once completed will see it operated in conjunction with Vintage Trains, after an agreement was reached with the Tyseley based charter operator.
