Cowley Bridge Junction (Exeter) 47140 Down express Easter 1980
Class 47 47140 passes the GWR signal box at Cowley Bridge Junction with a Down Express, Easter 1980. The signal box opened in 1894, and extended in 1943 (hence the nameboard not being centrally located!). The box was closed under the Exeter area resignalling in 1985. This junction has seen considerable flooding from the adjacent river Exe in recent years.47140 was withdrawn in February 1988 after a collision involving 47106. 47140 was cut up at Vic Berry, Leicester in June 1989.
