Missing/damaged buffers 47287 Crewe Works September 24th 1977
Visits to Crewe Locomotive Works were always an adventure. , , My first visit was about February 1972, no doubt taking the first service out of Derby to Crewe on a Sunday morning, hoping there were no delays since it was a mighty long walk from Crewe Station to the Works entrance., , Then there was the lengthy walk around the yards and shops before making the long trek back to the station. , , But the mix at Crewe Works was far different from my hometown Works at Derby. The multitude of Classes 20/37/40/47 and a cross section of the AC electrics and the occasional Class 76 certainly filled up the note book with numbers, whilst the photographs captured a whole range of subject matter., , Although this view dates from 1977, its typical of the oddities to be found about the Works, two locomotives with missing and/or damaged buffers., , And of course it was raining!, , Happy Memories.
