British Railways Brush Traction Type 4 Co-Co class 47/4 diesel-electric locomotive number 47540 of Crewe Diesel Traction Maintenance Depot passes between Baguley Fold Junction signal box's down home signals on the up Main line with the daily 07:20 Harwich Parkeston Quay to Glasgow Central/Edinburgh 'The European' (1S85). Thursday 30th October 1986, , The train is passing between Baguley Fold Junction signal box 45 signal (Down Main Home) with 41A signal (Signal 41 Distant) below it on the taller post, and 42 signal (Up East Curve Home) with 41B signal (Signal 41 Distant) below it on the shorter post., Now normally when a semaphore distant is placed below a stop signal the semaphore distant signal is operated by the signal box ahead of the signal box controlling the stop signal. Occasionally such an arrangement occurred when the signal box controlling the stop signal also had an intermediate block signal, then the semaphore distant applied to the intermediate block signal., In this instance both distant arms are repeaters for the starting signal which protected Clayton Bridge level crossing from 16th December 1973 when Clayton Bridge signal box closed and the level crossing became controlled from Baguley Fold Junction signal box by closed circuit television. This made an unusual occurrence that when a driver passed Baguley Fold Junction signal box's down semaphore distant signal below Philips Park No.1 signal box's starting signal showing off the starting signal could still be at danger, , 45 signal was renewed on 13th October 1991 with the signal arm reduced to 17 feet above rail level, , In front of 42 signal is a termination board for a 10mph temporary speed restriction for trackwork between 2 mile 12 chains and 2 mile 35 chains
