, , Looking north the disused freight only line leads to Tower Colliery at Hirwaun 2 miles further on, the building on the right is the old Aberdare station which was opened in 1851 by the Great Western Railway, on the Neath to Pontypool Line and was last used on 13th June 1964, when this line closed to passengers,, The new Aberdare station where i'm standing was opened to passengers on the 3rd October 1988, with the last coal trains passing through to Hope cement works in Derbyshire in May 2017., Cardiff Canton allocated Transport for Wales BREL Derby 1985 built Class 142 142083 stands by the single platform, prior to working the 12.52 Aberdare-Barry Island service on which i will travel to Pontypridd., Taken whilst traveling on the excellent value for money £13 'Explore Cardiff & Valleys' Rail Ranger, this is one of the places i had never been to before and will probably never go back too., , 28th March 2019,
